Bach by Bach

I know I've raised this point before: Why must we be bombarded with arrangements, mutilations, etc. of Bach's music?  I am on this again because I heard the Stokowski orchestration of the D-minor Toccata being used to represent Bach and his music.

There are so many capably done period performances of Bach's works.  Why are we subjected to such a circus approach?  Moreover, do we really hear his music this way?  Of course not.  We hear Stokowski and his late-romantic notions.  The late romantic was an extremely self-centred and self-absorbed time.  Nothing could sound good unless it was done their way.
